INVOCATIONS

Invocations is a research laboratory to establish a dialogue with what cannot be named, with what is subtle; to develop radars and sensors from the peripheral gaze that guide us and thus navigate in the emptiness that is not empty. A methodology to go out to meet the unknown and let ourselves be moved by it.

 

What does it mean to cross a threshold? There is an instant in which all times are contained, in which everything we thought we knew cracks. What happens then? What do we do with the cracks? With the multiplicity of realities that open up? There is a perception that encompasses what is behind what we see. The space is filled with presences of what was here before and even of what will be. To invoke is to make present what is not here. An entity becomes present the moment it is named or given a place in space. What is that which is present, even if we can't see it? What space does it occupy? How do we relate to these other perceptions of the subtle? With what is outside the hegemonic logics that delimit how we are to look at and understand what happens?

 

To embody an enigma is to go beyond what is known. One knows and at the same time one doesn't. Every time an absence occurs an enigma emerges. We will all be absence at some point. Facing these experiences requires a psychic responsibility that allows us to integrate the enigmas that emerge from them. For this it is necessary to open spaces from which to name what has not been named, to access those places in the body where unanswered questions dwell, to move through these spaces of mist, to generate a slight distance in order to be able to go a little beyond ourselves and the conception we have of the world.

The workshop is based on research, developed over the last three years, where movement and spatial practices are brought into contact with the tangible and intangible materials that surround and cross us. In this way, we put into operation the Machine of Unknowing from where we enunciate theories, theorems and hypotheses of the traversed bodies. This laboratory is created in dialogue with Marta Echaves and her conference De las acechanzas that will take place on 23 June.
