THE UNKNOWING MACHINE

Since the beginning of 2020 Esther Rodriguez Barbero and Marta Echaves have been developing what they call the ‘machine of not knowing’, a practice of choreo-writing to cross the thresholds and invoke what is without being. What is that which is present even though we can't see it? How do we approach other perceptions of the subtle, that which is outside the hegemonic logics that delimit how we are to look at and understand what happens between life and death? What at first was a practice of research and creation gradually became an intimate encounter and a kind of shared language: through movement and the relationship with space, an automatic writing emerged that resonated with what the body moved and the place where the practice took place. The ‘machine of not knowing’ appears as a way of accompanying oneself in the face of personal situations related to loss and difficulties in naming certain experiences. It is also a machine that makes it possible to generate narratives in the face of socially imposed silences and encrypted inheritances.

During the month of November different events will be held in the CA2M space, with previously selected guests, and on 9 December this practice will be open to the general public to discuss the questions raised by this experience, and to share concerns and feelings about absences and our relationship with death.
